Valerie Hernandez (she/her/hers) is a Latinx Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the states of Maryland and Virginia. Valerie graduated with her master’s in social work from Barry University in Miami, FL.
Valerie’s therapeutic approach is guided by her decolonial, humanistic, affirming and strengths-based perspectives. Valerie approaches her work with a holistic lens that’s works to integrate the whole person’s experience and makes space for the exploration of interpersonal and intergenerational dynamics and their impact on one’s mental health. Central to Valerie’s work are the values of liberation, self-compassion, connection, empowerment, authenticity, and radical self-acceptance. Valerie believes that every person has a wealth of knowledge and experiences to bring into their healing space and to flourish from.
Valerie’s experience reflects her passion for working with people who have gone through trauma. Valerie has worked in a variety of settings from residential treatment facilities to outpatient non-profit settings, emergency influx shelters, as well as at a domestic- and sexual violence safehouse. Valerie has experience working with individuals and groups as a mental health therapist, as well as managing programs and training & supervising staff and volunteers. Valerie is passionate about advocacy and educating communities about mental health, social-emotional, and empowerment-centered topics. Valerie’s passion lies in breaking cycles and empowering historically marginalized communities to thrive and flourish into the most fulfilled and authentic versions of themselves.
